The Ribbons of Blue Mid West Region is part of the Northern Agricultural Natural Resource Management Region
The Region
The Mid West Region extends from Kalbarri in the north, east to Yuna, and south to Dongara, and includes the catchments of the Murchison, Chapman, Greenough and Irwin Rivers as well as groundwater springs. The regional centre is the city of Geraldton, which has a major port for mineral sands, stock and grain. Much of the area is agricultural, and groups frequently monitor the water quality of farm dams.
Ribbons of Blue in the Mid West Region was initiated by Geraldton Senior High School and Chapman Valley Primary School in 1994. Local government agencies, community service groups and local businesses have supported the growth of the program financially and practically, involving the wider community in site monitoring and rehabilitation.

Long-necked Turtles are common in the south-west. They breathe air and females leave the water in spring and summer to lay their eggs on land. They eat crayfish, shrimps, insects, molluscs and fish.
