The Leschenault Region is part of the South West Natural Resource Management Region
The Region
The Leschenault Region in the south west of Western Australia has an area of 1 981 km2. The region drains into the Leschenault Estuary just north of the City of Bunbury. The region includes the catchments of the Brunswick, Collie, Wellesley, Ferguson and Preston Rivers, as well as numerous wetlands, creeks and drains.
About half of the region supports a diverse agricultural industry, including irrigated pastures for dairy cattle, horticulture and orchards. Other activities include mining, forestry, manufacturing and service industries, tourism and recreation, aquaculture and conservation.
The Leschenault Region still retains approximately 40% of its natural vegetation, is a great place to live and a popular holiday destination.

At least twenty-six frog species live in the south west of WA, and most of those spend a large part of their life cycle along streams. The clamour of frog calls along streams is a common winter sound.
