The Blackwood Region, part of the South West Natural Resource Management Region
The Region
The Blackwood Region covers the catchments of the Blackwood, Margaret and Scott Rivers, including the Beaufort, Arthur, Chapman and Buchanan Rivers - an area of 28 000 square kilometres from Kukerin in the east, to the Hardy Inlet at Augusta.
In the Blackwood Region, the program commenced in 1991 and is sponsored by WA Plantation Resources (formerly Bunnings Tree Farms). During the past fifteen years Ribbons of Blue/Waterwatch WA has successfully involved 35 schools, state and local governments and the community in the monitoring of water quality. In recognition of this success, the program won a National Landcare Award in 1998, and is part of the Blackwood Basin Group's submission which was the runner-up in the International Riverprize Awards 2000.

At least twenty-six frog species live in the south west of WA, and most of those spend a large part of their life cycle along streams. The clamour of frog calls along streams is a common winter sound.
