The Avon Region is approximately 120 000 square kilometres of mainly dryland agriculture (wheat and sheep). The region encompasses the towns of Dalwallinu in the north, Southern Cross in the east and to Pingrup, beyond Lake Grace, in the south. The region includes the Avon, Lockhart and Yilgarn sub-regions.
Ribbons of Blue/Waterwatch WA in the Avon Region has formed strong links between community and school groups, and is supported by the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality through the Avon Catchment Council Natural Resource Management strategy.

Long-necked Turtles are common in the south-west. They breathe air and females leave the water in spring and summer to lay their eggs on land. They eat crayfish, shrimps, insects, molluscs and fish.
