In July 2002, Ribbons of Blue working in conjunction with Allan Knight, TEE chemistry teacher, produced a booklet aimed at capturing Year 11 and 12 TEE chemistry.
The Ribbons of Blue resource guides students to link theoretical ideas with scientific applications. It provides students with:
investigation and science communication skills;
the capacity to use science learning in decision making and to act responsibly; and
an understanding of the nature of science as a human activity
The resource booklet outlines water quality parameters, linking these to land management activities and relating scientific principles to river systems. The booklet contains laboratory exercises, with background notes for electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH and aquatic systems, plant nutrients - nitrogen and phosphorus. It has been distributed to all schools with Year 11 and 12 intakes in 2002. Regional Coordinators will also distribute and support the booklet at the regional level.
If you are interested in receiving a copy of this resource please contact your Regional Coordinator or the State Project Officer.
At least twenty-six frog species live in the south west of WA, and most of those spend a large part of their life cycle along streams. The clamour of frog calls along streams is a common winter sound.
